Ecodesign

Approach

Howaryu follows the principles of the RGESN (the French general ecodesign standard for digital services). The service has not yet been assessed criterion by criterion: this page describes the measures taken, without claiming a compliance rate.

Measures taken

• No third-party resources: no content delivery network, external font, analytics or advertising.
• Fonts hosted on the site, limited to the Latin character set; the browser only downloads those used by the posts on screen.
• Icons grouped in a single SVG file (34 KB); confetti drawn as SVG in the page, with no images.
• The wall shows posts in batches of 30, the rest only on request.
• Sound synthesised in the browser, with no audio files, and off by default.
• Live mode: one small request every 20 seconds, suspended when the tab is hidden, and can be turned off.
• Sound and live mode in a separate script (10 KB), loaded only on the home page and on a single post.
• Static files cached for one week.
• Animations (floating posts, hearts) stopped by the "Freeze" button or when the device asks for reduced motion.
• Dark theme available.

Measurements

Home page: about 350 KB on first load, including 210 KB of fonts and 63 KB of page (7 KB compressed), with 30 good news items, measured on 30 September 2026 on a test copy without compression. Every file comes from the site itself.

Still to do

• Full assessment against the RGESN criteria.
• Measuring the hosting footprint.
• Reducing the weight of the fonts offered to authors (the handwritten font alone weighs 75 KB).
• Retention period for good news: they are currently kept for as long as the service exists.
